Gloria Goldwyn-Liff has worked as a clinical social worker at the Boston Veterans Administration Healthcare System for over 40 years. Her primary exposure is in the field of mental health and substance abuse, providing individual and group treatment to adult veterans who carry diagnoses which include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and PTSD. She also has experience in community mental health, working with older adults who are now faced with a loss of social supports and diminished physical abilities. Other interests include grief and loss counseling, a focus on health and wellness and positive psychology and gratitude. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change and recognizes the importance of helping clients to feel comfortable. Her approach is eclectic, borrowing from various schools of thought, including psychodynamic theory and CBT. She is knowledgeable about the causes and courses of treatment and works collaboratively with the client to devise a plan which will permit the client to safely arrive at solutions to his/her problems. Among the techniques used are support, reassurance, clarification, reflective listening, exploration, modeling, and role play.
